Real causes of baldness

Family history :  The commonest cause of hair loss is a hereditary condition called male-pattern baldness or female-pattern baldness. It usually occurs gradually and in predictable patterns – a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning hair in women.

Hormonal changes: Hormonal changes due to pregnancy, childbirth or the onset of menopause may cause baldness.

Medical conditions:

  • Patchy hair loss: It occurs when the immune system of body attacks hair follicles. This results in sudden hair loss which leaves smooth, roundish bald patches on the affected skin.
  • Scalp infections: Fungal infections as ringworm can cause scaly patches and hair loss.
  • Skin diseases: Diseases which cause scarring alopecia may lead to permanent hair loss at the scarred areas.
  • Medicines: Baldness can be caused by medicines used for the treatment of cancer, arthritis, hypertension, depression, heart problems and some other conditions.
  • Androgenetic alopecia: It is the most common cause of baldness. It generally occurs slowly as a receding hairline and bald spots in men and thinning hair in women.

Other causes of hair loss

  • Radiation therapy to the head: After this therapy hair may not grow back same as they were before.
  • Certain hairstyles and treatments: Excessive hairstyling and permanent hair treatments can cause inflammation of hair follicles which may even lead to permanent hair loss.
  • Hair-pulling disorder: It is also called trichotillomania. In this condition, people suffer irresistible urge to pull out their hair from the scalp, the eyebrows or other parts of the body.

Prevention & Treatments for baldness:

Baldness can be prevented by following few measures:

Direct hair transplant is the modification of follicular unit extraction method, thus it provides the best results of hair transplant. It is scarless, painless and 100% safe technique.
